Description
Northern Marine & Engine Company was a respected Canadian builder operating out of Bronte, Ontario, known for robust commercial and working vessels purpose-built for the Great Lakes and inland waterways. Their tugs were engineered for longevity, with heavy steel construction and dependable propulsion that has proven itself over decades of hard service.
The J.G. Fleck, now Iroquois, began life as a logging tug built in 1946 for Booth Lumber Ltd. of Tee Lake, Quebec. At 54 feet on a 14-foot beam, she was built for pulling power and durability. Acquired by a Toronto owner in 1995 and converted toward recreational use, renamed Iroquois in 2000 and returned to service in 2002, she is a rare chance to own a genuine piece of Canadian maritime history.
HISTORIC GREAT LAKES WORKING TUG - TORONTO-BASED - STEEL HULL - GM DIESEL POWER - REFIT WELL UNDERWAY - TRADITIONAL WHEELHOUSE - WOODEN TENDER & DAVIT - RARE NORTHERN MARINE BUILD - PROJECT OPPORTUNITY
This is a boat with the hard work already done. The steel hull, GM diesel power, traditional wheelhouse with its original spoked wheel and brass binnacle, and the character that no modern build can replicate are all here. The conversion is well underway and the vessel is largely there, with a thoughtful refit in progress across the head, forecastle, and accommodation spaces. What remains is the finishing: an opportunity for the right buyer to complete her to their own standard and take the project across the line rather than start from scratch.
