Description
Back on the market: "Margaret Ann" now comes with two brand new Dometic air conditioning units.
2001 Catalina 380 "Margaret Ann" is a Gerry Douglas design that hits the sweet spot for real cruising: big boat comfort and space, without becoming an overwhelming boat to own or handle. Catalina introduced the 380 in 1996, and it quickly earned Cruising World's 1997 "Boat of the Year" (Mid Size Cruiser), a big reason the model is still so sought after today.
Cruising World's judges didn't pick the 380 because it looked good at the dock. They framed it as the boat they'd choose for a serious 1,000 mile family voyage ending in a season of cruising (Mexico/Caribbean), and the Catalina 380 rose to the top on that blend of size, value, and cruising practicality. Catalina's team also listened hard to experienced owners in this size range, resulting in a layout that prioritizes a big, functional single head, serious storage, and a proper nav station, exactly what long weekend and extended cruise owners actually care about.
A key advantage on Margaret Ann is her shoal draft wing keel (5'4"), making her perfectly at home on the Chesapeake and equally attractive for the Bahamas/Caribbean, where draft opens doors. Belowdecks, the Catalina 380 is famous for the aft owner's cabin with a true walk around "island" berth, the kind of layout that makes weekends turn into weeks. Many Catalina 380 listings talk about this as the signature feature, because it's genuinely hard to find this much owner cabin comfort in a conventional aft cockpit cruiser of this era.
And "Margaret Ann" is set up the way cruising buyers hope to find them: generator, two zone reverse cycle air conditioning (two brand new Dometic units), autopilot, and in mast furling, the right combination of comfort and manageability for traveling and living aboard. The head arrangement delivers what matters in real use: a stand up, separate shower stall, and the forward cabin includes the extra vanity sink (helpful for guests, it's a sink, not a second head).
In this size and price band, the Catalina 380 is often cited as one of the strongest cruising values around the $100,000 range, and "Margaret Ann" backs that up with the right keel and the right cruising systems already onboard.
If you've been waiting for a Catalina 380 that's equipped for comfortable independence, not just dockside weekends, "Margaret Ann" deserves a look. Schedule a private showing today.
