Description
Few names in American boating carry the history and recognition of Chris-Craft, and the Commander series remains one of the most respected chapters in that legacy. Built during an era when yachts were expected to be substantial, seaworthy and built to last, the fiberglass Commanders developed a loyal following that continues more than five decades later.
This 1971 Chris-Craft 47 Commander is a particularly appealing example, having spent her entire life in the Great Lakes under the care of just four owners. Powered by Detroit Diesel 8V53s with less than 500 hours since major overhaul, she offers the kind of straightforward, proven mechanical package that has helped make these classic Commanders so enduring.
Her current owners have enjoyed her as a liveaboard for 16 seasons, a history that speaks to the comfort, functionality and livability of the 47 Commander layout. Along the way, she has continued to receive thoughtful updates, including recent carpeting and a completely new aft enclosure, bimini and upper helm cover completed in 2025.
She combines the unmistakable lines and substantial construction of a classic Chris-Craft with the comfort and usability that make the 47 Commander equally suited for extended cruising, entertaining or simply enjoying life aboard.
Opportunities to own a freshwater Commander with this kind of history are becoming increasingly difficult to find. The sellers are motivated, and winter storage is negotiable, making this an excellent opportunity for the next caretaker to become part of this Chris-Craft's story.
