The 2012 Cruisers Yachts 48 Cantius is a luxury motor yacht designed for comfortable cruising, blending the climate-controlled comfort of a sedan bridge with the sporty handling of an express cruiser. Below is a detailed overview of its specifications, features, and reviews based on available information.
Key Features
- Innovative Design: The 48 Cantius introduced a trend-setting “double salon” layout, featuring an upper salon with a helm that overlooks a lower-level salon and galley, creating an atrium-like effect with abundant natural light. Large windows, a six-foot sunroof, and triple sliding glass doors enhance the open, airy feel.
- Cockpit and Deck: The aft deck has U-shaped seating with a table, a wet bar with refrigerator, icemaker, and grill, and genuine teak decking. Dual side gates and molded steps provide easy access to the cockpit and side walkways. The spacious bow includes a chaise lounge, windlass, and full bow railing.
- Upper Salon: Features an entertainment center, wet bar with retractable TV, and U-shaped settee with a fixed table. The helm offers 360-degree visibility and advanced controls.
- Lower Salon and Galley: A full-service galley with modern appliances and an L-shaped sofa with an adjustable table. The atrium design brings natural light below deck.
- Staterooms: Includes a full-beam master stateroom midship with a queen bed and ensuite head with shower, and a forward VIP stateroom with an island berth and ensuite head.
- Engine Room: Accessible via a cockpit hatch, it offers stand-up space, a generator with sound shield, and clearly labeled mechanicals and wiring for easy maintenance.
- Performance: Equipped with Volvo IPS pod drives, the yacht handles smoothly, with minimal bow rise during acceleration, excellent rough-weather seakeeping, and low vibrations. The IPS drives enhance dockside maneuverability and stability in turns.
Reviews and Reception
- Design Innovation: The 48 Cantius is widely praised for its visionary design, particularly the atrium-style lower salon and extensive use of glass for natural lighting, setting a trend in the industry. Reviewers noted its ability to blend indoor and outdoor spaces seamlessly, making it ideal for entertaining.
- Comfort and Versatility: The yacht is lauded for combining the climate-controlled comfort of a sedan bridge with the sporty handling of an express cruiser, making it suitable for various climates, from the Great Lakes to subtropical regions. The open layout and sunroof create a non-confining feel, even in hot or cold conditions.
- Build Quality: The construction is highlighted for its durability, with high-quality materials like stainless-steel fittings, isophthalic laminating resin, and methyl-methacrylate adhesives (Plexus). Hatches and lids are RTM-molded for strength and weight efficiency, and all mechanicals are clearly marked for maintenance.
- Performance: Testers reported excellent handling, with the IPS drives making docking easy and the boat carving turns like a deep-V hull. The ride is smooth with minimal noise and vibration, enhancing the cruising experience.
