Description
Golden Era Petrel – Classic Herreshoff Beauty with Modern Practicality
Introduced in 1977, the Golden Era Petrel successfully bridges the gap between classic New England yacht design and the durability and ease of ownership offered by modern fiberglass construction. Measuring 20.75 feet, this elegant pocket cruiser is a near-exact reproduction of the legendary Herreshoff Fish Class, preserving one of the most admired sailing designs ever to emerge from the drawing board of Nathanael Greene Herreshoff.
Originally conceived in 1916 at Herreshoff's famed Bristol, Rhode Island shipyard, the Fish Class was designed as a larger, more powerful, and drier alternative to the celebrated Herreshoff 12½. Its beautiful proportions, exceptional sailing characteristics, and timeless appeal quickly earned it a place among the classic yachts of New England.
By faithfully reproducing the original hull lines, Golden Era Boats of Noank, Connecticut captured all of the defining features that made the Fish Class so admired, including its graceful spoon bow, sweeping sheer line, and distinctive heart-shaped transom. The result is a stunning daysailer that retains the charm and elegance of the wooden original while benefiting from the low-maintenance advantages and longevity of fiberglass construction.
A true classic in every sense, the Golden Era Petrel offers sailors the opportunity to own a piece of American yachting heritage while enjoying the practicality and reliability demanded by today's boating lifestyle.
